Parramasala locked in again

PARRAMATTA City Council has once again committed to its partnership with Destination NSW to host the 2013 Parramasala Festival.

Parramasala, the Australian Festival of South Asian Arts, is a key element in Parramatta’s program of major events.

It provides a high-profile event for the City, a unique offering with local, national and international relevance. It attracts major public attendance and wide media and social media coverage. It also celebrates Parramatta’s unique, diverse and rich mix of cultures.

Parramatta Lord Mayor, Cr John Chedid, said in previous years, Parramasala had showcased Parramatta as an exceptional venue for events and he is pleased to once again form this partnership with the State Government.

“We are looking forward to hosting this unique festival again – bigger and better than ever – and welcoming international performers and visitors to our beautiful city,” he said.

“Parramatta is the perfect place to stage a major festival like Parramasala. The City also happens to be the epicentre of South Asian cultural diversity in Sydney and Australia.”

As part of its sponsorship agreement Parramatta City Council will seek to ensure high levels of community and local business engagement as well as greater use of Council and City branding across marketing materials.

At the Council Meeting held on December 18, Cr Chedid requested an advisory committee be formed to enhance the involvement of local business and community leaders, such key stakeholders in Harris Park.

“That authentic South Asian experience should always be grounded at the local level by the input and the involvement of local businesses and Parramatta’s resident community; this is what helps”
