Celebrations around the region

THE colours, sounds and flavours of East Asia will be showcased when Parramatta and the Hills welcome the Year of the Monkey at annual Lunar New Year celebration.

The free event will be held in Centenary Square on Friday, February 19 from 4.30pm to 9.30pm marking the most significant holiday festival in the Asian calendar.

Festivities will include traditional and contemporary live performances such as the dragon and lion dance, a range of Asian-inspired cuisine, an illuminated lantern garden and Lunar Land – a family-friendly space with interactive games and workshops.

In the Hills lunar celebrations for the Year of the Monkey at North Rocks Park promise to be bigger than ever before, with an array of colourful cultural activities and displays on offer for Hills locals and visitors.

For the kids there’ll be heaps of free activities to enjoy from face painting, to balloon twisting, craft workshops, Lunar story times at the pop-up library, Lunar photo booth and colourful Lunar displays including the traditional Lion Dance and God of

Fortune handing out lucky red envelopes.

Foodies won’t be able to get enough of the delicious Asian cuisine on offer including offerings from Sydney Food Trucks: Mama Lihn’s, Agape, Let’s do Yum Cha, Eat Art Truck and Tsuru as well as fabulous cooking demonstrations and fruit carving displays.

The whole family will enjoy the traditional art, music and dance displays, pop-up flower stall, amusement rides, stilt walkers and spectacular fireworks display that will conclude the day’s celebrations.
