Hills Shire Mayor Dr Michelle Byrne thanked Baulkham Hills State MP David Elliott for advocating for the car park, which will see more residents leave their cars and using public transport.
“Council has continued to advocate for commuter car parking around the Sydney Hills and we’ve seen some real progress being made on Torrs St, Baulkham Hills,” Mayor Byrne said.
“The site is owned by Roads and Maritimes Services (RMS) and they’ve agreed to make the land available for use as a free commuter car park for very low annual rent to Council, provided we maintain the car park and cover the lighting costs.”
“Transport for NSW has also agreed to fund the car park construction which will support the growing demand for bus services around Baulkham Hills.”
Mr Elliott said the car park should accommodate 178 parking spaces with construction scheduled to be completed by the end of 2014.
“The continued growth in commuter car park demands makes this project not so much a necessity as just common sense,” Mr Elliott said.
