The ball will be on August 20 at Biviano’s Restaurant Dural, with proceeds going to The Sanctuary — Hills Women’s Shelter, which officially opened its doors on April 20
The large renovated home was donated by QIC, the owners of Castle Towers, rent free for three years.
The six bedrooms, five bathrooms, two kitchens and two lounge areas means the refuge, set up by a community committee with backing from Women’s Community Shelters-HO.
The Sanctuary provides crisis accommodation for up to six women and their children who are homeless or fleeing domestic violence, for up to 3 months.
It is one of the only services that cater to women and their children with a disability.
Up to 30 women and their children annually will be provided with around the clock car, specialist support and case management to assist them in starting a new life per year.
Families , during that time they will have access counselling, job support, and legal and financial advice. The Sanctuary has also employed a full time children’s caseworker and the children’s doctor will provide free medical care for children.
The Sanctuary is underwritten and supported by Women’s Community Shelters who fund 50 percent of the operational costs through fundraising.
The Sanctuary board is comprised entirely of local community leaders acting in a voluntary
capacity.
The Hills Black and White Ball will feature a three course meal, entertainment, raffles and auction.
