The app will give smartphone users access to location-based information on bin collection times and facilities, as well as easy access to current news and events.
“For the first time, smartphone users will have information on Council’s facilities, services and special events at their fingertips,” Lord Mayor John Chedid said.
“Better still, My Parra is a tailored application that delivers information based on where you live, as opposed to providing blanket information which may not be relevant.
“People are increasingly time poor so we’ve had to adapt and provide a new way for residents to interact and engage with Council, without visiting or calling Council’s offices.
“Not only is information easier to access, residents can also log requests or other issues directly with Council through My Parra, enabling staff to respond straight away.
“Residents will be able to access My Parra and log requests anywhere, anytime and on any device.”
The app also provides the ability for sporting associations and families to access wet weather sporting ground information which previously was only available by calling a hotline.
This is the first release of what Council intends to be a wider program of services and information available via mobile devices. My Parra will continue to evolve with more features to be added down the track.
The My Parra app is available for download, free of charge via the iTunes and Google app stores. Council will also release a Windows version of the app in the coming months.
