A partnership announcement from Penrith Council and Telstra to provide free public Wi-Fi at several key community locations has made this possible.
From today, residents, shoppers and visitors can access 19 hotspot sites across Penrith to gain up to 30 minutes of free Wi-Fi daily.
Telstra Air members and eligible Telstra mobile customers will also be able to enjoy unlimited access to Telstra Air hotspots in the Penrith area until March 27, 2017 thanks to the Telstra Air Free Wi-Fi Offer.
Penrith Mayor Karen McKeown said Penrith was proud to be one of the first councils in Australia to deploy the ground-breaking initiative with Telstra Air.
“Having access to the Internet has become a fundamental part of modern life and this service will offer free Wi-Fi while people are out and about in Penrith. We’ve chosen key locations across the City including in the Penrith City Centre, Queen Street St Marys and Tench Reserve among others,” Cr McKeown said.
“This initiative delivers on one of the action plans in Council’s Digital Economy Strategy to ensure the City is well placed to embrace its digital future.”
Telstra Head of Wi-Fi Dan Kelly said Telstra is excited to be working closely with Penrith Council to help deliver a connected experience for local residents and visitors.
“Since the launch of Telstra Air last year, our customers have told us they love being able to stream music, catch up on their favourite TV show or browse the web when they’re out and about."
Free Public Wi-Fi is now offered at:
• High Street Shopping Precinct.
• Tench Reserve.
• St Marys Swimming Pool.
• Penrith District Netball Association.
• Emu Plains Regional Art Gallery.
• Cranebrook Community Centre.
• Regatta Park.
• Station St, Queen St & Chapel St, St Marys.
The free Public Wi-Fi coverage will extend to an approximate 50-metre radius to the surrounding area.
Telstra Air is Australia’s largest Wi-Fi network and gives Telstra home broadband customers the ability to use their broadband allowance at thousands of hotspots in Australia and millions of hotspots overseas.
Telstra is partnering with councils to bring Telstra Air and access to fast, reliable Wi-Fi to community spaces across the nation.
