OUTDOOR DINING FEES WAIVED

Hills fosters growing food scene

HILLS Council has waived application or rent fees for outdoor dining areas on Council footpaths for restaurant and café owners.

Hills Shire Mayor Dr Michelle Byrne said she wanted to support small businesses and foster a vibrant food and dining scene in The Hills.

“Earlier in the year, we removed outdoor dining fees for restaurants and cafes on Castle Hill Main Street. While it was positively received, we did get a few comments from business owners throughout the Shire who said they would like to see it rolled out to other areas in The Hills,” Mayor Byrne said.

“I’m happy to say that we have now expanded the removal of outdoor dining fees across the Shire and while there will still be an approval process for restaurant and café owners to have outdoor dining, we are waiving the fees.”

Bill and Merryne Diacos are the owners of Dural restaurant Billy the Greek. With more than 30 years of experience in hospitality, Merryne said that every dollar saved counts.

“There are so many expenses in hospitality so every dollar saved really helps,” Ms Daicos said.

Mayor Byrne said that Council was committed to making The Hills a more attractive place to do business.
